Afghanistan's Foreign Ministry December 25 confirmed that 21 Afghans died when a ship capsized off the Greek coast earlier this month, Radio Free Europe reported.
The boat, which was carrying illegal immigrants, set off from Turkey and capsized in stormy weather December 13. Women and children, including at least two toddlers, were among the victims.
Janan Musazai, a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry, said 21 bodies were handed over to Afghan officials.
